One of the best ways businesses can show their clients, customers, employees and the rest of the world that they care is through participating in charitable events, encouraging corporate social responsibility and fundraising at work. Offices throughout the UK take on a range of fundraising activities, from sponsored challenges to charity galas and events, and any money raised can be donated to a cause close to the hearts of those who work there. There’s a wealth of fundraising options to choose from to raise more money for your chosen charity, but we thought we’d take a look at some of the biggest charity-organised events that are ideal for corporate participation.

Fundraisers at work

Alzheimer’s Memory Walk

Throughout September, Memory Walks are held all over the UK and entered by individuals and teams so as to raise money and awareness about the charity. Walks vary in length, with the standard event being between 2km and 10km, the Memory Walk Plus, over 15km, or the Memory Walk Glow, which takes place under the stars. Type in the postcode of your workplace to find a walk near to your office, and if no such event exists, then contact Alzheimer’s directly to create your own! A great way to unite against dementia and walk together with your colleagues to raise funds for a fantastic charity that affects the lives of so many around the world.

Wear it Pink, Breast Cancer Care

On October 18th, offices all over the country will experience a splash of colour, as workplaces of all shapes and sizes participate in ‘Wear it Pink’. The campaign has raised over £33 million since it was launched in 2002, and this year promises to be the biggest yet. Simply sign up your workplace, ensure you rock a delightfully pink garment as part of your outfit for the day, the brighter the better, and hold fundraising events at work on the day. Breast Cancer Care suggest pink-inspired raffles, bake sales, games and quizzes so as to raise even more on the day.

MIND Thames Bridge Trek 2019

Join over 3000 others in walking across some of the most awe-inspiring and impressive bridges in the capital, seeing the renowned London skyline from an array of different vantage points, whilst raising money and awareness for a fantastic cause. Starting at Putney bridge, you’ll zig-zag your way across the river, stopping for drinks and snacks at the Vauxhall half-way point, until you hit the iconic Tower Bridge and enjoy the finishing celebrations in Southwark with all your colleagues and any friends you’ve made along the way. Teams can enter and walk together, so you can keep each other going and there’s sure to be plenty of photo opportunities!

The Gherkin Challenge, NSPCC

Join #TeamNSPCC in taking on the Gherkin Challenges, whereby individuals race up all 38 floors of the iconic London building, with each attempt timed so as to see who can do so the fastest. While entries are individual, offices and workplaces can turn this into an internal competition and hold various events in the run-up to the event, raising as much as possible for a fantastic cause before the fastest in the office can be crowned. Upon reaching the top, you can enjoy the panoramic views from the top floor, along with a celebratory glass or two of champagne with your colleagues. A unique, fun and challenging way to raise money, this campaign is now in its 10thyear and has raised over £1 million for NSPCC.

Cancer Research Shine Night Walk

Head out over night to tackle a walking marathon, half-marathon or 10k in this fantastic event to raise money for a type of cancer of your choice. Workplaces and offices can enter together as a team or even enter a team of volunteer supporters to spread some of that positive office spirit with walkers. Shine Night Walks are happening all over the UK, and it’s certainly set to be a night to remember for corporates that care in London and beyond.

Action for Children’s Byte Night

The UK’s largest corporate sleepout involves both individuals and teams sleeping rough to raise as much money as possible and contribute to the prevention of youth homelessness. From the first Byte Night over twenty years ago, it has expanded to include twelve separate events and nearly 1500 people taking to the streets in 2018. You and a team of colleagues can spend some quality time together roughing it out on the streets while raising vital funds for the movement against homelessness and sending an important message to others about corporate responsibility. So, grab your warmest PJS and a group of work mates and head out to spend the night on the streets with other, like-minded employees, so that those that don’t have a choice, no longer have to.
